Those of you who have been on my workshops know that I am big believe in using Speedlites (camera flashes) for on location photographs.
While working on my next book, I took a few Speedlites to the Explorers Club in NYC for a quick shoot.
Here is the end-result photo (taken by my co-author Vered Koshlano) and a behind-the-scenes shot.
Here’s the set up that we used: one stand-mounted Canon Speedilte 580 EXII fired through a stand-mounted Westcott diffuser that was positioned above eye-level and off to camera right (at about a 45 degree angle), and a similar flash/diffuser setups positioned to camera left.
A third flash was positioned on the red couch (out of camera view) and pointed toward the rear wall to illuminate the background.
An assistant held a fourth flash below eye-level and to camera right to light my face.
All flashes were fired from our hot-shoe mounted Canon ST-E2 wireless transmitter. For the cleanest possible picture, the ISO was set at 100.
By the way, I am not a hunter. The Explorers Club has been around since the early 1900s, when big game hunting was in vogue. Please! No emails about stuffed cheetahs. The only cheetahs that I have ever shot were with my cameras.
