Imagenomic announced today the commercial release of Portraiture 2 for Aperture.
Portraiture 2 for Aperture is a newly-engineered version that fits seamlessly into Aperture digital image management, editing and output. Special features include:
· Automatic Skin Tones Mask generation and “One-click” skin retouching through a new Preset Manager, which includes image thumbnail previews, bracketing controls, custom preset creation and file sharing, notations, and visual history states;
· Advanced Skin Masking controls for selecting, feathering and refining the retouching area, edges and tonal ranges of the selected mask, including real-time previews;
· Enhancement sliders and settings for sharpness, softness, warmth, tint, brightness and contrast control, with the ability to apply these selectively to the mask area only or to the entire image, e.g. for adjusting lighting effects in software;
· Non-destructive editing and data integrity preservation for image repurposing and superior print quality;
· Extended output options, including dynamic retouching settings optimized for the intended size of the print output;
· New User Interface selection options, multiple image batch processing capabilities, and multi-threaded/multi-processor support for maximum retouching speed and performance.
Portraiture 2 for Aperture can be purchased directly from Apple (www.apple.com) or Imagenomic (www.imagenomic.com) for $199.95 (SRP). Free trial downloads are available for interested parties to “try before they buy.”
I’ll be writing a review of this plug-in sometime next week.

Honestly how can I justify having plugins that are more than the app? Getting just a few of things makes me think I should just switch to Lightroom & Photoshop.
Aren’t portrait photogs just gonna use Photoshop anyway? Small market but very profitable.
Scott, I have been using the beta of the Portraiture plug in for ~ 2months now.. (before that, I used the PS plug in v 1.0). Portraiture is a pro application, yes it is expensive… but it provides excellent results with very little time spent tinkering. I am an advanced amatuer (hobbyist), my main subjects are my 2yo and 2 mo old.. with various family members… the job that Portraiture does on keep images is wonderful. Yes pricey…
For people earning money with portrait shoots this isn’t that expensive.
Aperture (and Lightroom) are more like umbrella apps. You CAN add plugins making the post-processing experience better. You don’t need to.
Cotton I don’t know what you’re talking about. This plug-in doesn’t cost more than the application – they are the same price. As to the combined cost of Aperture AND the plug-in, that is still less than the cost of Photoshop. And finally, whether or not it’s too expensive is a question I’ll wait to answer after I have actually used it. To me, $199 for a good plug-in isn’t that outrageous.
I’m wondering, is there a comparable plugin for Lightroom or should I just man-up and buy photoshop? It really seems like the advanced skin tools would be useful.
It is also VERY MISLEADING of Apple to describe this on their download page as “Shareware”
A 15 day trail for a $199 plugin is NOT shareware by anyone’s description.
Too expensive when you compare it to the price of Aperture. Ought to be $50 and their market would be 10 times what it is…
Jon T did you try the program? If so tell me what you liked best or least about it.
Wow!
A person could really make an otherwise ugly person look pretty with this.
If you ask me just man-up as you say and get Photoshop then get the Kodak Digital Gem Airbrush Pro plugin from http://www.asf.com
I don’t think there is a Lightroom plugin.
If you use Photoshop, consider this: http://coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/ A lot if plugins – free and very useful. :)
Yes Scott, I did indeed have a go and my first impression was that it was quite ‘Viveza like’ – which is good. Although the default settings seemed a touch on the fierce side, I liked it a lot.
But I’m fearful that I am going to be lured into that world of fabricating perfection, when up until now, I have moderate in my treatment of facial blemishes! I think I’ll try it for the trial and then go back to my tried and tested methods again before deciding if it’s a runner.
How much time do you think you save compare to using PhotoShop
I wish all vendors would price their Aperture plugins like Nik Software: all versions for one price. I have to say that buys a lot of customer loyalty when a vendor treats me fairly this way.
And conversely, I feel a bit nickeled and dimed when a vendor charges a substantial upgrade fee to add to provide the same functionality in Aperture that’s available in Photoshop. Have to decide whether to vote wallet or not, I guess. Sigh.
