Tamron announced today that they have developed a new SP AF60mm F/2.0 Di II MACRO 1:1—Life-size macro lens designed exclusively for APS-C size DSLRs features fast F/2.0 maximum aperture. Tamron claims a working Distance at 100mm which would be very close.
The new Tamron 60 would cover an equivalent angle of view of 93mm when converted to the 35mm format. The new life-size fast macro lens from Tamron is expected to be made available in mounts for Canon, Nikon (with built-in AF motor) and Sony. Price and launch schedule will be announced at a later date.

I hope Tamron gets the price right on this. I’ll be in the market for a macro lens soon.
Definitely will be interesting to see how it rates against the Sigma 50mm f2.8 1:1 macro lens. I have been shooting with it a lot recently and it is a great lens, but I do generally prefer Tamron so there is a chance I would trade up to this.
The equivalent Canon lens is $400. If this were less than $350 on the street, it would be perfect.
On the other hand, the Canon lens is f/2.8 and this is f/2, so it could be in the $400 to $500 range and still be a deal.
I’m really torn between the Nikkor 50/1.4 and 60/2.8D micro. This will definitely answer my need if fairly priced. Yes, at around 400 – 500 range of f2 works for me.
I’m anxious to see some video podcast reviews of this lens in action by professional photographers.
