Along those lines, If you’re a Lightroom user and want more flexibility in watermarking than is built into the product, check out LR/Mogrify. It lets you do a variety of things to your images when exporting. It’s donationware and well worth a look.

  3. It doesn’t make much sense to duplicate the background layer to apply a mask in this case, the mask could be just as easily applied to the type layer itself. You can even use the same quick selection technique, just invert the selection, or invert the mask and you are done.

  4. @Michael – Yes, you could do that instead, but what if you wanted to move the text somewhere else? The photo will probably always be in the same place, but you may find that the text needs to be readjusted and masking the photo (not the text) will make it easier to edit if you change your mind.
