A Different Kind Of Time Lapse Photo

February 13, 2009

If you’re looking for a fun photo project, here’s an idea. Photograph the same thing or place at different times of the year, at different times of day, in different kinds of light and in different kinds of weather. Then, make a photo album, composite print, slide show or poster that displays all the photos in a group that tells the story.

Great idea Scott and something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. You just gave me the push I need. Great images too.

    Love that IR shot!

Wait…is that IR or is it a winter scene?

Great tip Scott! Now it’s time for me to crack the D-50 out of its shell and get to work!

Last weekend I did a time-lapse photography movie myself in my trip to PR. There was a marathon event and I took the opportunity to have fun with it. You can watch the end result on my blog. The rabbit goes this way: blog.batgeek.com. Feedback really appreciated. I will have a better spot next year!

I live in a fantastic apartment in downtown Portland Oregon with a view of Mt. Hood, so everything morning I wake up early and check out the sunrise, I have hundreds of shots with the same view. But of course way different with the way the seasons make the clouds different or sun in different locations and even a moon or two in the shot. This idea is fantastic and I can’t wait to go thru my phots and put this together. I was thinking about printing up 50 5×7′s and making frames for them all and hooking them all up for a huge wall type print for my parents, but first I think i should make a QT time lapse to see what turns up.

Great idea, Scott! I don’t ever feel like I’m in one place that changes drastically enough to actually work for one of these though (Hawaii & Cali).

To me, that looks more like a frosty winter morning in black and white than IR photography. Whatever it is, it’s a nice shot.

Now the question is how to consistently set up up a shot such that it is reasonably repeatable.

I’ve been photographing a billboard that I pass on the way to work, every time the advert changes on it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/newfolder/sets/72157607049331610/show/ – the picture quality’s not that great, I usually use the point and shoot I always carry with me and I’m not sure whether it would be better to try and use a consistent framing.
