Every once in a while, those of you who are kind enough to stop by TWIPPHOTO.COM will receive a free gift. Today is one such day. I am attaching a free Photoshop Action I call, “ScottsFloatingMatt.”
It takes any image you bring into Photoshop, and gives it the appearance of the photo as if it were a floating over a piece of matt board. You can select the color of the matt foreground/background before applying the action.
To install, open Photoshop and simply drag the ATN file anywhere onto the blank workspace. It will then show up in your Actions Palette, (Available from the Windows Pane on the Menu.) I will leave this file up and active for a few days. After that, it will be gone, so act quickly and enjoy.
Please note that your decision to download and use this Action constitutes your agreement that you will use at your own risk and you acknowledge the file is provided free, with no support.
Download the ScottsFrames2.atn (containing FloatingMat) here.

Scott,
Great Action, the gallery software I use has a similar option, but I always wanted to do this with photos I email friends. Thank you for sharing with us.
Many thanks, Scott.
Many thanks, Scott.
This is really great! Its like they are actual prints. I like how it makes my photographs look like they are in a gallery! Next stop MoMA! Hey, next time can you make one that adds brush strokes AND lens flare, thats what I need!

Sounds interesting. Will this work with Photoshop Elements ??

Very nice of you sharing it with us..
Thanks, Scott!!!
Thanks for the action! When I use the action though, it seems that no matter what foreground or backgrund color I choose (black or white) I get the same background; a charcoal grey. Am I doing something wrong?
You can see an example on my site: http://www.allynedmonds.com

thank you for this! I love it. I’ve been trying to figure out a nice border for my shots and this one works well.

Thanks Scott. Great to see photographers giving back to the community!

Thanks,Scott. This will be handy when presenting images for digital competitions. A nice white border against black BG of the screen looks nice. And you’ve made it so easy.

Thanks Scott!
Your gift, however, leads me to ask this question… How do you decide which color matt goes with a photo?
Thanks again!

Allyn,
I have the same problem. It works fine for me if I choose a colour not too close to white or black. Otherwise it is a grey canvas. I am not sure what we are doing wrong :(
Once I can figure it out it will be great! I love the look.
I still haven’t figured it out, but I guess we are on our own on this one. If by chance I do figure it out I’ll let you know. Thanks everyone! ;|
Looks like you need CS4 for this to work properly!
