Scott’s Favorite Photo Websites

July 30, 2008

I wanted to share some of my personal favorite photo websites and ask you to do the same.

If you want to follow the New York photo scene or are interested in media work, check out Photo District News. They are one of the most respected photo publications in America for good reason. They publish hard news about the photography world.

Every single day I take a look at Alltop – Guy Kawasaki’s photo blog aggregation site proves even the simplest of ideas can be powerful. The best photo blogs in the world (including TWIP :) are represented here and there is ALWAYS a wealth of information. Highly addictive. You have been warned!

Photo Books Online is pretty self-explanatory. If you want a photo book, chances are they have it here. Also check out Photo Eye.

And if you’re into landscape photography, check out Michael Riechmann’s wonderful Luminous-Landscape.

If you have a favorite photo site that I haven’t listed, be sure to tell me about it.

Definitely DP Challenge. One of the better online photo contests out there. The photo challenges give you something to shoot for each week and you get feedback from other photographers. Its also a great online community that really helps each other out, not just with photography related things.

The site also offers a lot of good information in the way of tutorials.

Thanks for the link to SportsShooter! Shooting track and field is my primary intrest. Why don’t you do a whole episode on shooting sports? I would love that!

An excellent site to view a small body of work from professional photographers. There are also illustrations and other types of art work, but the core of the site is photography.

It’s a bit specialist but if anyone’s interested in using a Holga (plastic toy camera, $20 on eBay) you can get some good tips here: http://www.squarefrog.co.uk/

I forgot to add this one the other day. But for those of you who are interested in fashion photography, check out Ric Frazier who creates beautiful and innovative works of underwater fashion photography.

Great tips Scott, thank you. does anyone know if there are any sites or organization that I could join that would post job listing or classifieds in the photography field? I feel that craigslist is probably not the best way. I’m in the Los Angeles area. I’m trying to gain hands on experience.

Hey, Scott, where can we see the shot that started it all for you: The Indy 500 wreck from when you were 16? I’d love to see it.

@Jeremy I wish I knew. I haven’t had that shot in my hands since the 70s. At the time, it didn’t seem all that important that I save it…
