What timing. I was going to buy a Rebel XSI because of the price difference between it and the 40D but this changes everything. Thanks for the heads up.

And the first two comments show what always happens in a case like this. Someone is happy and someone is not. That’s why we wanted to alert folks so they didn’t make a mistake.

I bought a 400D last month from EBAY. That was a difficult process, there were many sellers on EBAY but I only found 2 that were honest. I paid a little more but I got a genuine 400D US model.

The kid included two Canon lenses 15-50 and 75-300. The entire package was 850 shipped. I think that was a good price.

Scott, is there anything indicating this might also apply to some lenses? I am so craving a 10-22 or the 70-200 f/2.8 IS, but I can’t afford them…
Thanks for keeping us up to date; I listened to quite some photography podcasts, but I definitively like yours the best! Keep it up!

Just a pointer for the Europeans:

Canon’s European rebate program has been running since March 1st, and runs until June 30th.

    Details here:
    http://canon2008promotions.onlinerebates.com/

It’s not “instant”. It’s the “cash back” variety, where you have to wait for weeks until they deposit the cash into your bank account.

This is great! I’m buying a canon xti this weekend simply becuase its been the camera of my dreams. besides, i want to start small. as i improve ill look towards higher end cameras, but for now, im content. xti’s have great image quality for their price and i think itll suit me for the next decade or so. Besides, the glass is what matters, and its the photographer that makes the pictures :D

I love photography, buy my parents dont like it becuase its such an expensive hobby. Plus, they dont think im going to get anywhere with it, but i don’t care i love it. Even though this camera’s probably going to be the only one i buy for a LOOONG time especailly because i dont have to money for it, im going to to make this count!!

    Canon Rebates?

Good one, usually I like to be positive, especially about Canon products. However, I am still waiting for the last $430 dollars worth of rebates when i purchased a 30D, a 70-200L, and a few other pieces and sent all the rebate forms and require documentation to the fulfillment center over 2 years ago. I believe the program was Sizzling Summer Savings with double rebates when you purchased multiple items.

Probably switch to Nikon over this issue……….Its in the camera!

@KJ I have to admit Canon’s rebate program can and occasionally does suck. I would suggest anyone who relies on this rebate coming back to them to realize it will take months. Document everything. Send your rebate form in a way that you can prove it got there. Make copies of your receipts, box parts you cut out and rebate forms. And once the time limit tolls, start contacting your state consumer affairs division to force Canon to comply with the terms of their offer.

It’s ugly and not worth it to me personally to save $20 on a lens. For a $300 savings on a camera body – maybe.

In reporting the Canon program, we are in no way endorsing it.

Ok, so this is kinda of conflicting – the graphic says “Instant Rebate” which leads me to believe you get the rebate automatically (by it getting discounted automatically when you purchase the lens). But I see that you say there is paperwork to complete…can you clarify? Luckily the lens I’m interested in (the 16-35 f2.8L) is on the rebate list but I just want to be clear before I go buy the thing :-) Thanks in advance!

Yes, I understand, just reporting. Sorry to sound off about it. It is worth noting that it isn’t as automatic as it seems. You really need to stay on top of it. One of these days I will send the CEO of Canon USA a small gift of prints and an explanation letter(and scanned copies of all my UPC codes, receipts, etc.) and explain what a royal pain in the rip off their fulfillment center is perpatrating on their otherwise loyal clients.

Other than that, really like the Podcast and website, Its my favorite. Great Job!!

PS. It may be that I am just really not good at redeeming mail-in rebates.

Sigh … wife surprised me with a 40D on Friday. Crap. Oh well, at least I am comfortable in the solace that had she waited a few more days we probably never would have gotten the rebate anyway.

Loving the 40D by the way. Stepped up from a 300D, both in time and in model range, and it shows.
